Have you ever wondered which service is faster - Cable
(broadband) or ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line)?
Well
the answer is easy to find and there are plenty of sources on the
Internet to help you. The first thing you could do is search
GOOGLE or
MSN. Our favorite site is
www.dslreports.com/archive because it provides information directly from
subscribers.
Note that Shaw Cable is ranked 16th, while
Telus is ranked 81st (as of April 30th, 2004) There's no marketing involved, only opinionated,
or should I say "passionate users" sharing their results and
independent speed
tests. Also, with the introduction of
Shaw High-Speed Xtreme-I, Shaw customers will be even happier. Another source, interestingly enough, is one of Canada's largest ADSL providers.
Who you say? Telus. I happened to be flipping through
the yellow pages, looking for our new yellow page ad, and Telus or
as I found out afterward, "Super Pages", has a section in the middle
of the phone book which explains the differences in more detail.
Our office is located in Calgary, Alberta so you keeners will find this
information on pages 1061 and 1062 of the 2002/2003 yellow pages. For other major cities in
Canada, look for a section called "Internet" or "Internet
Guide". This is what they say:
|
"Accesses available at speeds
beyond 56kps" |
|
CABLE |
Can
transfer information at 10 million bits per second. |
|
ISDN |
Can
transfer information at 128 thousand bits per second. |
|
ADSL |
Can
transfer information at 2.5 million bits per second. |
That's a huge difference in numbers,
if you ask me. The reason WebworX.ca Inc. endorses
Shaw Cable products is first and foremost because of the service
Shaw provides. We have had a Shaw line into our office for
over 2 years, with only one, PLANNED interruption in service since
Shaw completed their huge "System Upgrade". Now that's service!
OK, we now know Shaw High Speed Internet is faster, "Always On" and
the service is excellent, now what?
Still not convinced read this!
